Unacademy is an educational technology company that aims to build the world's largest online knowledge repository for multi-lingual education.

Unacademy uses technology to empower great educators and create a community of self-learners.

Unacademy first began as a channel on YouTube in 2010 by Gaurav Munjal. In December 2015, Roman Saini and Hemesh Singh joined Gaurav Munjal to found the company as its own venture. Unacademy has it's headquarter based in Bangalore, Karnataka.

Unacademy's vision is to partner with the brightest minds and democratise education for everyone looking to learn.

Unacademy helps students prepare for competitive exams to get into a college and also those who are pursuing graduation-level courses. On its app, students watch live classes from educators and later engage in sessions to review topics in more detail.

 

Unacademy has launched a subscription service in 2019, that offers students access to all live classes. The platform, which has 30 million registered users, has amassed more than 350,000 paying subscribers.

 

Unacademy is backed by General Atlantic, Sequoia Capital India, Facebook, SoftBank's Vision Fund 2, Tiger Global, Blume Ventures, Nexus Venture Partners, SAIF Partners India and others. The companny reportedly raised $80M in a new round on Nov 25, 2020. This brings Unacademy's total funding to $428.6M to date. The latest round values the company at $2B. up from its previous. $1.45B gained Sep 02, 2020.
