Supabase

Supabase is a YC-incubated startup that offers developers an open-source alternative to Google’s Firebase and similar platforms.

Supabase is building the features of Firebase using enterprise-grade, open source products.

Supabase was founded in 2020 by Paul Copplestone and Anthony Wilson. The company is headquartered in Singapore.

Supabase offers many of the core features that developers would need to get started, including a database, storage and authentication service, as well as the recently launched Supabase Edge Functions, a serverless functions-as-a-service offering.

Supabase includes support for PostgreSQL databases and authentication tools, with a storage and serverless solution coming soon. Supabase currently provides all the usual tools for working with databases — and listening to database changes — as well as a web-based UI for managing them.

Supabase's community has now grown to more than 80,000 developers who have created over 100,000 databases on the service — a growth of 1,900% in the last 12 months.

Supabase is backed by Coatue, Felicis Ventures, Lightspeed Venture Partners, YC, Mozilla, GitHub co-founder Tom Preston-Werner, and others. The company raised $80M in Series B round on May 10, 2022. This brings Supabase's total funding to $116.1M to date.
