Skydio was founded in 2014 by Abraham Bachrach, Adam Bry and Matt Donahoe. The company is based in Redwood City, California, with a manufacturing facilities in Hayward, CA.


Skydio's computer vision and motion planning algorithms coupled with the same image sensors and processors in mobile phones give drones the ability to navigate with respect to their surroundings.


Skydio's first drone Skydio R1, films and moves itself with the freedom of flight to get the best shot, letting you capture otherwise impossible videos. Skydio's 2nd self-flying’ drone, Skydio 2 is built around the Skydio Autonomy Engine - the most advanced flying artificial intelligence system in the world. 


Skydio also launched the X2 family of drone hardware on July 13, 2020, which is designed for commercial use. Skydio's recent products Skydio Dock and Skydio Dock Lite, powered by Skydio’s new Remote Ops software, which enable drones to be flown without an operator on site at all.

The company raised $230M in a Series E round on Feb 27, 2023. This brings Skydio's total funding to $570M to date. The latest round more than doubled the company's valuation to over $2.2B, up from previous $1B in its Series D in Mar 2021.
