Modular is a next-generation AI developer platform unifying the development and deployment of AI for the world.
Modular's mission is to have real, positive impact in the world by reinventing the way AI technology is developed and deployed into production with a next-generation developer platform
Modular was founded in 2022 by Chris Lattner and Tim Davis. The company is headquartered in Los Altos, California.
Modular’s next-generation AI developer platform enables its customers and the world's developers to defragment their AI technology stacks, pushing more innovations into production faster and realizing more value from their investment in AI. Its infrastructure integrates into customers’ environments with minimal migration cost, natively supporting multiple clouds, hardware accelerators, and AI frameworks out of the box.
Modular's platform is compatible with major AI frameworks – such as TensorFlow and PyTorch – and delivers performance and cost savings on today’s CPUs, with support for GPUs. Modular’s engine lets developers import trained models and run them up to 7.5 times faster versus on their native frameworks.
Modular also built Mojo, a programming language that aims to combine the usability of Python with features like caching, adaptive compilation techniques and metaprogramming. Currently available in preview to “hundreds” of early adopters, Modular plans to release Mojo in general availability early next month.
Modular is backed by General Catalyst, GV, Greylock, SV Angel, The Factory, and others. The company raised $100M in a Series A round on Aug 24, 2023. This brings Modular's total funding to $130M to date.
