Mainframe is a new video game studio specializing massively in multiplayer online games with cloud gaming.

Mainframe is on a mission to create a persistent social world that reflects the best strands of our collective DNA as game developers.

Mainframe Industries was founded in Iceland in 2019 by Thor Gunnarsson, Kjartan Emilsson, among others. The company is headquartered in Helsinki, and Iceland.


Mainframe is using Epic’s Unreal Engine to develop its first game, and the team is making the transition to Unreal Engine 5, which is expected to be formally released next year. 


Mainframe is backed by Andreessen Horowitz. Riot Games,, Play Ventures, Sisu Game Ventures, Crowberry Capital, Twitch co-founder Kevin Lin, and others. The company raised $22.9M in Series B round on Nov 30, 2021. This brings Mainframe's total funding to $33.2M to date.
