GAC AION, the electric car subsidiary of the Chinese GAC Group, is a manufacturer of electric vehicles and offers new energy products and services.
GAC AION currently sells fully electric sedans and crossovers, and recently entered in the electric supercar segment by revealing the new Hyper SSR.
GAC AION was introduced as an electric vehicle sub-brand under GAC New Energy in 2017. The company is headquartered in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China.
GAC AION has five purely electric models on the market. Some of these are characterised by enormous technical data and sometimes offer a range of over 1,000 kilometres, In September 2022 alone, GAC Aion was able to sell over 30,000 vehicles.
GAC AION launched a new vehicle platform AEP 3.0. The platform is intended to enable more efficient electric cars, particularly sporty vehicles – at least the first model will be at the sporty end of the scale.
GAC Aion has also published some targeted driving performance: models based on the AEP 3.0 are supposed to be able to reach speeds of up to 300 km/h, with variants with one motor being able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds and versions with multiple motors in 1.9 seconds.
GAC AION is backed by GAC Group, Ganfeng Lithium, Hanrui Cobalt, Keda Industrial Group, CanSemi, CITIC’s Goldstone Investment, China Structural Reform Fund, Shenzhen Capital Group, and others. The company completed its Series A round with 18.294bn yuan ($2.53bn) in funding on Oct 20, 2022. The round valued the company at a 103.239bn yuan ($14.28bn) post-money.
