Arweave

Arweave is a blockchain startup focused on the permanent storage of Internet content.

Arweave uberizes the traditional web hosting environment, connecting people with spare hard drive space with people that need web hosting.

Arweave was founded in 2017 by Sam Williams. The company is headquartered in London, UK. Arweave went through Techstars Berlin's mentorship program in 2018 and went live in June that year.

Arweave has developed a new type of blockchain based on Moore’s Law of the declining cost of data storage. Users pay upfront for a hundred years of storage at less than a cent per megabyte, and the interest that accrues will cover the dwindling storage cost forever.

Arweave has created perma-apps like WeiBlocked, which crawls Weibo for content likely to be censored. It indexes these posts and decentralizes them in the storage of hundreds of Arweave nodes operated around the world.

Arweave has introduced Arweave Grants, a programme through which any community member can submit proposals for projects, startups, DAOs, and even marketing initiatives. They are also launching Arweave Boost, an offering for any project, startup, or company looking to boost their growth with the help of reliable, truly permanent data storage.

Arweave is backed by Andreessen Horowitz, Union Square Ventures, Coinbase Ventures and others. The company raised $8.3M in a new round on Mar 05, 2020. This brings Arweave's total funding to $13.7M to date.
