Anthropic is an AI safety and research company working to build reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems.

Anthropic is on a mission build large-scale experimental infrastructure to explore and improve the safety properties of computationally intensive AI models.

Anthropic was founded in 2021 by by former leaders of OpenAI, including Dario Amodei and Daniela Amodei. The company is headquartered in San Francisco, California.

Anthropic is creating a “next-gen algorithm for AI self-teaching.” Such an algorithm could be used to build virtual assistants that can answer emails, perform research and generate art, books and more.

Anthropic's first product Claude, is a next-generation AI assistant for your tasks, no matter the scale. Claude is available through an API, that can be instructed to perform a range of tasks, including searching across documents, summarizing, writing and coding and answering questions about particular topics.

Anthropic is also building new features like 100K context windows, which lets you submit hundreds of pages of materials for Claude to digest and analyze. Anthropic recently expanded the context window — essentially, Claude’s “memory” — from 9,000 tokens to 100,000 tokens, with “tokens” representing parts of words.

Anthropic is backed by Google, Spark Capital, SAP, Salesforce Ventures, the Center for Emerging Risk Research (CERR), SK Telecom (SKT), Sound Ventures, Zoom Ventures, Jaan Tallinn co-founder of Skype, and others. The company raised $100M in a new round on Aug 14, 2023. This brings Anthropic's total funding to $1.85B to date. Anthropic didn't disclose its valuation for the latest round, but was reportedly valued at $4.1B in a $300M financing round in Mar 2023.
