Xampla

Xampla, a spin-out from The University of Cambridge, is a next gen plastic startup that makes natural alternatives to plastics.

Xampla's mission is to replace the everyday single-use plastics you see all around, like sachets and flexible packaging films.

Xampla was founded in 2018 by Professor Tuomas Knowles. The company is headquartered in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.

Xampla has created the world’s first plant protein material for commercial use.

Xampla engineers the next generation of bio-based material, made entirely from plant protein, enabling companies to produce end-products that meet changing consumer and regulatory requirements. Its science is Supramolecular Engineered Protein (SEP), developed over fifteen years at the University of Cambridge.

Xampla’s ground breaking material has applications in single- and multi-layer films, coatings for various functionalities and a full range of single-use plastic products, including packaging.

Xampla is backed by Horizons Ventures, Amadeus Capital Partners, Cambridge Enterprise, Sky Ocean Ventures and others. The company raised €6.8M in Seed round on Jan 08, 2021. This brings Xampla's total funding to €9M to date.
