WeTransfer was founded in 2009 by Bas Beerens, Rinke Visser, & Ronald Hans and is based in Amsterdam, Noord-Holland, The Netherlands with an additional office in Los Angeles, California.

 

WeTransfer's core service is free, with more features available for premium accounts. Free users can send files up to 2 GB; the paid-for WeTransfer ‘Plus’ allows users to send up to 20 GB at a time and offers features like password protection, channel customization and 100 GB storage. In October 2018, WeTransfer relaunched its app with the name "Collect by WeTransfer".

 

WeTransfer has over one billion files sent through its platform each month, from users in 195 countries.

 

WeTransfer is backed by HPE Growth & Highland Europe. The company cashed in €35M in it's latest funding of a "Secondary Market" round on Aug 19, 2019. This brings WeTransfer's total funding to $63.8M to-date. In 2019, Fast Company named WeTransfer one of the world’s most innovative design companies “for being a one-stop shop for creativity tools.”
