Picnic Technologies

Picnic is an app-only supermarket with a completely integrated supply chain. It delivers groceries at low prices without delivery costs.

Picnic is the world's fastest growing online supermarket with a unique business model and a highly engaged customer base.

Picnic was founded in 2015 by Joris Beckers, Frederik Nieuwenhuys, Michiel Muller and Bas Verheijen. The company is based in Amsterdam, Netherlands and has 7 distribution centres across Europe.

Picnic’s innovative concept meant they could offer the same products at the same price as regular supermarkets, but deliver them right at the door of their customers. The products are fresher and cheaper as the company does not own any stores.

Picnic controls the entire supply chain itself and works closely with local suppliers. It also develops its own products with the ‘best’ suppliers in the world. Besides, it also delivers everything free of charge in 100 per cent electric cars.

Picnic's electric cars have covered more than 1.4 million kilometers to date. The online supermarket has now expanded to more than 200 locations in the Netherlands, Germany, and France, and has saved millions of individual trips to the supermarket.

Picnic is backed by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Trust, ABN AMRO Fund, Vulcan, NPM Capital, SHV Holdings, Hoyberg, Kruidvat, and others. The company raised €600M in Series D round on Sep 15, 2021. This brings Picnic's total funding to $1.1B (€950M) to date. Picnic was reported to be valued at over $1B.
