Misfits Market

Misfits Market is the e-commerce platform that sells “ugly” produce (among other things).

Misfits Market delivers ugly, but otherwise perfectly edible fruits and vegetables right to your door.

Misfits Market was founded in 2018 by Abhi Ramesh. The company is headquartered in Pennsauken, New Jersey.

Misfits started as a subscription box that allowed folks to buy ugly or misshapen produce on the cheap each week. This produce would have been thrown out at the farm, before ever heading to a distributor or grocery store, because it usually goes to waste sitting on a grocery store shelf.

Misfits leverages direct relationships with growers and producers to reduce food waste at scale and eliminate inefficiencies in the food system. Misfits Market reaches consumers in every nearly zip code within the states that it serves.

Misfits' expanded selection includes chocolate, snacks, chips, coffee, herbs, grains, lentils, sauces and spices. Users can add these products to their usual weekly produce box on an à la carte basis.

Misfits is backed by Accel, D1 Capital, SoftBank Vision Fund 2, Valor Equity Partners, Greenoaks Capital, Third Kind Venture Capital, Sound Ventures and others. The company raised $225M in Series C-1 round on Sep 14, 2021, bringing the round total to $425M. The latest financing brings Misfits' total funding to $526.5M to date. The new round pushed the company's valuation to $2B, up from previous $1.1B gained after Series C raised in Apr 2021.
