MarkLogic was first named Cerisent and was founded in 2001 by Christopher Lindblad and Paul Pedersen. The is based in San Carlos, California with headquartered in Silicon Valley and field offices in Washington D.C., New York, Austin, London, Frankfurt, Utrecht, and Tokyo.
