Lucidworks was founded in 2007 by Grant Ingersoll, & Yonik Seeley and was publicly launched on January 26, 2009. The company was formerly known as Lucid Imagination and changed it's name to Lucidworks on August 8, 2012. Lucidworks is based in San Francisco, California with offices in Cambridge, England; Bengaluru, Karnataka, India and Hong Kong, Hong Kong.

The company raised $100M in it's latest funding of a "Series F" round on Aug 12, 2019. This brings Lucidworks' total funding to $209M to-date
