Klarna was founded in 2005 by Sebastian Siemiatkowski, Niklas Adalberth and Victor Jacobsson. The company is headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, with offices in Germany, the Netherlands San Francisco and other parts of the world.

 

Klarna’s main product is an alternative payment method on e-commerce platforms. It lets you buy now and pay later over three or four installments with 0% interest. Klarna launched a rewards program called Vibe, which lets you earn points for every dollar you pay back on time when you use Klarna as your payment method. 

 

Klarna one of the world’s largest providers of “buy now, pay later” (BNPL) services, which allow shoppers to spread out the cost of their purchases over a period of interest-free installments.

 

Klarna is active in more than 17 countries, and has over 250,000 retail partners, including Macys, H&M, Ikea, Expedia Group, Samsung, ASOS, Peloton, Abercrombie & Fitch, Nike and AliExpress.

 

Klarna is backed by General Atlantic, Sequoia, Dragoneer, SoftBank’s Vision Fund 2, Ant Group, Silver Lake, BlackRock, HMI Capital, Atomico, TCV, Permira, Visa, Mubadala Investment Company, CPP Investments, and others. The company raised $800M in a new round on Jul 11, 2022. This brings Klarna's total funding to $4.54B to date. The latest round brings down the company's valuation to $6.7B, a 85% drops from previous $45.6B in Jun 2021.
