General Motors Company, commonly known as GM, is an American multinational corporation headquartered in Detroit, Michigan, that designs, manufactures, markets, and distributes vehicles and vehicle parts, and sells financial services.The company was the largest automobile manufacturer from 1931 through 2007.

General Motors produces vehicles in 37 countries that are sold under various brands that include: Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Cadillac, Holden, HSV, Wuling, Baojun, Jie Fang, and Ravon.

With global headquarters in Detroit's Renaissance Center, GM manufactures cars and trucks in 35 countries. The company was founded by William C. Durant on September 16, 1908 as a holding company. The company was the largest automobile manufacturer from 1931 through 2007.

General Motors led global vehicle sales for 77 consecutive years from 1931 through 2007, longer than any other automaker, and in 2012 was among the world's largest automakers by vehicle unit sales.

General Motors has made few acquisitions over the years, which includes, a $3.5B acquisition of AmeriCredit in Jul 22, 2010, and a $1B deal of Cruise Automation in Mar 11, 2016. General Motors has also made over 10 investments totaling over a $5B.
