Climeworks is a Direct air capture (DAC) technology developer which builds machines that catch carbon dioxide from the air and store it in solid state underground.

Climeworks empowers everyone to be climate positive by permanently removing carbon dioxide from the air.

Climeworks was founded in November 2009 by Christoph Gebald and Jan Wurzbacher as a Spin-off from ETH Zurich. The company is headquartered in Zürich, Switzerland.

 

Climeworks has developed a technology to capture carbon dioxide (CO2) directly from the air, which can then either be stored or recycled and used as a raw material. The firm’s modular CO2 collectors can be stacked to build machines of any size that are powered solely by renewable energy or energy-from-waste.

 

Climeworks' unique carbon dioxide removal technology also offers businesses a permanent negative emissions solution for their sustainability strategy and for individuals it provides a way for them to remove their carbon footprint and contribute to a climate-positive world.

 

Climeworks opened the world's first commercial CO2 project filtering from the ambient air in Hinwil. The company launched the world’s largest direct air capture and storage plant in September 2021. 

 

Climeworks is backed by Climeworks is backed by GIC, Partners Group, Baillie Gifford, Carbon Removal Partners, Global Founders Capital, John Doerr, M&G, Swiss Re, BigPoint Holding, and others. The company raised CHF600M ($649M) in a new financing on Apr 05, 2022. This brings Climeworks' total funding to CHF720M to date.
