Chipper Cash is the first platform of its kind to offer instant cross-border mobile money transfers in Africa.

Chipper Cash was founded in Kenya in 2017 by Ham Serunjogi and Maijid Moujaled. The company is headquartered in San Francisco, California, with offices in Accra, Ghana and Nairobi, Kenya. 


Chipper Cash offers a no-fee peer-to-peer cross-border payment service in Africa via its app. Its services are used across seven African countries — Ghana, Uganda, Nigeria, Tanzania, Rwanda, South Africa and Kenya.


Chipper Cash also runs Chipper Checkout, a merchant-focused, fee-based mobile payment product that generates the revenue to support Chipper Cash’s free mobile-money business.


Chipper Cash has scaled to over 4 million users on its platform and processes an average of 80,000 transactions daily. In June 2020, Chipper Cash reached a monthly payments value of $100 million.


Chipper Cash is backed by FTX, SVB Capital, Ribbit Capital, Bezos Expeditions, Deciens Capital, 500 Startups, Liquid 2 Ventures, Raptor Group, Tribe Capital, and others. The company raised $150M in a Series C extension round on Nov 02, 2021. This follows a $100M Series C raised in May 2021, bringing the round total to $250M. The latest round valued Chipper Cash at $2B post-money, also brings the the all time raised to $302.2M to date.
