bunq is a banking app which allows you to have total control over your money through your phone.

bunq exists to challenge what banking is and can be for you, to break free from the status quo.

bunq was founded in 2012 by Ali Niknam. The company is headquartered in Amsterdam, North Holland, Netherlands, with offices in Paris, Rotterdam, Sofia, and Cologne.

Bunq offers bank accounts and debit cards that you can control from a mobile app. It works particularly well if your friends and family are also using Bunq as you can instantly send money, share a bunq.me payment link with other people, split payments and more.

Bunq offers different plans that range from €2.99 per month to €17.99 per month — there’s also a free travel card with a limited feature set. By choosing a subscription-based business model, the startup has a clear path to profitability as most users are paid users.

Bunq operates in 30 markets and is available in Ireland. To date, it has advanced over €650m to Irish SMEs and has around 3,000 business customers on its books.

bunq is backed by Pollen Street Capital, and CEO Ali Niknam. The company raised $228M (€193M) in Series A round on Jul 08, 2021. This brings bunk's total funding to €397.9M to date. The new round valued the company at €1.6B ($1.9B) post-money.
